Pilates Basics
- To begin Pilates classes, it is imperative that you start
with an "Intro" class. The Intro class is designed to bring
you up to speed on the "ins and outs" of Pilates classes at
the Fairlane Club. Even if you have participated in Pilates
classes before, we would still encourage you to attend an
Intro class. You can sign up for a group Intro class by
calling Ext. 294 to schedule
an individual Intro session.
- Pilates classes are limited in size and do require
advanced sign-up. Please call to reserve your spot in a class
before the day of the class, if possible. Also, be sure to let
us know if you cannot make a class you have signed up for,
because there may be a waiting list.
- Pilates class will have the most impact on your posture,
muscle tone, flexibility, and overall fitness level if you
participate in classes at least two times per week. Combining
mat and reformer classes will give you a varied approach to
achieving your goals while staying with one type of class will
allow for greater skill development. The choice is yours.
- Very often people will try Pilates for the first time at
home with the instruction of a videotape or DVD. It is our
recommendation that you try to pursue some form of
professional instruction either before or during your "home
training" method. Pilates is designed to break bad muscular
habits that you may not even know you have. Many of the
benefits of Pilates can be lost in this situation and in some
cases, injury may result from poor technique.
- Pilates can provide tremendous benefits for those who
commit to regular participation in group classes or private
lessons. Please don’t hesitate to start your journey to
feeling and looking better through the method of Pilates.
